A VARIETY OF POSITIVE OUTCOMES ARE EXPERIENCED BY PARTICIPANTS, PONSORS AND COACHES.
As part of the Enviro-Challenge⢠programme schools are supported to undertake a number of actions and initiatives. Some examples are outlined below:
Students:- Deliver a presentation of their environmental review to their school assembly and/or Board of Trustees
- District ambassador teams deliver a presentation to their supporting Council and sponsors
- Ambassadors and participating students are supported with career advice and applications for other environmental programmes, scholarships and awards
- Personal and social development gains are made
- Formation of an environmental committee or group and/or environmental captain position
- Undertake waste and energy audits and minimization strategies
- Support to undertake their environmental review priority actions with links to supporting programmes
- All participating schools receive a feedback report
- Feedback forms are provided to all teachers and teams to formally evaluate and improve the programme
- Supporting councils and sponsors receive access to a database of contacts for schools, teachers & students
- An evaluation report is produced for all project partners
- Existing or developing community and Council sustainability initiatives networked and implemented in schools
- Research conducted for sponsors including travel surveys
- Feel good factor of helping to make a real difference to young people and their direct environment
- Opportunities to develop knowledge of sustainability issues and implement these in a real setting
- Networking opportunities with other environmental agencies
Careers:
Students are exposed to a wide range of environmental career opportunities and meet with young professionals working in their local area. Students are linked with local employers and agencies seeking students to participate in environmental activities and employment opportunities.
2010 will also see the initiation of a work experience placement in for an Ambassador showing particular excellence and drive toward a career in the Environmental professions
